MSc in Women's Health

This postgraduate degree course leads to an award of Master of Science (Women’s Health) from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. The aim of the course is to provide graduate level, academic training in all aspects of women’s health and to develop the participant’s abilities in research and service provision within the community. The course is designed to meet the needs of health care professionals who have not had the opportunity to access post-graduate training in women’s health and who wish to avail of the opportunity to improve their skills and knowledge. As a part-time course extending over two years, it is suitable for individuals with a background in the medical and nursing professions.

Laparoscopic Surgical Skills Course

• This course is designed for Gynaecologists (all grades) who wish to develop their skills in laparoscopic surgery
• On completion of the course it is expected that each of the participants will, at a minimum, be skilled in performing a laparoscopic salpingectomy, oophorectomy or salpingo-oophorectomy
• The course is designed in a structured way and starts with a theoretical and practical teaching session followed by seven further practical teaching sessions at monthly intervals
• The practical teaching sessions will facilitate and monitor delegates’ development of specific technical dexterity and troubleshooting skills
• Each delegate will be given a personal trainer on which to learn – the trainer comprises a laparoscopic simulator (Endosim®), video camera, monitor, graspers, scissors, sutures and training modules
• Each month, delegates demonstrate expertise and learn a new skill. Training exercises are provided
